Salt and Flour Maps

By: Sydney

In my fourth grade class, we made salt and flour maps. The salt and flour map is a mini California.

At first, we put salt and flour on a piece of card board. Then after the salt and flour dried, we painted them. After the paint painted, we put tabs of where the places.

The hardest part about the salt and flour map was putting the  Sierra Nevada mountains on.

Have you ever made a Salt and Flour Map?
What was the hardest part about it?

Mrs. Krauss

by Sydney

I have a teacher named Mrs. Krauss, and she is so nice.  Mrs. Krauss used to be my neighbor right across the street.  I was so nervous that I wasn't going to get her but lucky I did.

Mrs. Krauss has taught us so much about California. This Friday,  we are doing a salt and flour map on California.

In the morning, we do Daily Bite, poems, and plexers.

I enjoy having Mrs. Krauss as a teacher.

Do you have a teacher as good as Mrs. Krauss?

Fourth Grade

Yesterday, was the first day of school.  So far, fourth grade is harder than third grade was.

I had to take a math test on the first day of school to see if I would be placed in accelerated  math or regular math. I think I will be in accelerated math because the test seemed easy to me.

My teacher is Mrs. Krauss, she is a very nice teacher.

In fourth grade, you have a huge binder, dividers, and a planner. (If you are in third or lower you will understand next year).

We have already started a project called "All About Me Tee". You bring in pictures of your family, your favorite food, what you do in the community, and a couple more.

In fourth grade you get out of school at 2:50 instead of 2:20.

I am excited for this school year and I hope you are too!

Do you think your grade is harder or easier?

School is Starting Again

By Sydney

On September first school is starting again. I go to Chaparral Elementary school. I am going into fourth grade.

I think fourth grade is going to be a lot more work than third grade because you have more homework, you have harder classes, and there is more than one class.

I hope fourth grade goes  by slower then last year because it felt to me like third grade went by so fast.

What grade are you going into?

Do you think your grade is going to be harder than last year or easier?

Summer Vacation!

By Sydney

During the summer a lot of kids usually go to a camp. This year I am going to a couple of different camps. I will be returning to Canyon Creek Sports Camp for two weeks(It is a sleep away camp),  I am going to a Tennis Camp that starts tomorrow, and I am going to a Soccer Camp as well.

I have been to sleep away camp for the  last three years . It will be my second year at the Tennis camp, and I will be starting that camp tomorrow. This is my first year doing a soccer camp.

I think it is going to be a blast this summer vacation.

Are you going to any camps this summer?

Have you been to any of these camps?

What are you doing this summer?

Last Day of School

Yesterday was my last day of school (June 15, 2010). It was a sad day for me.

At the end of the day we had a big group hug.

Here is another group hug we had.

During school hours, we read The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, we cleaned out our desk and we signed each other's year books.

Last but not least, we saw people walking home for the last time this school year.

I will miss you, Mrs. Yollis. I will never forget you. You are the best.

Do  you want to stay in school, or do you want summer?

What are your special plans for summer?

Palm Springs

During the week off of school my family and I went to Palm Springs. Our hotel was called Rancho Las Palmas. We had two rooms one for my parents, and one for my brothers and me. We were there for three days Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I went with a lot of friends.

I went to the pool every day. You had to wear a bracelet that said the day, and it had to say Splashtopia (That was the name of the pool). The pool had a lazy river, a lazy river is when you sit in a tube and just sit there and it pushes you.  I also went to see Shrek Forever After (4).

Have you ever been to Palm Springs?

                                  Did you see Shrek 4?

Have you ever been in a lazy river?

My Brothers Bar Mitzvah!

By Sydney

My brother, Sam, turned thirteen in May. When you are a jewish boy or girl, and you are thirteen years old you have something called a Bar Mitzvah/Bat Mitzvah (if you are a girl, you have a Bat Mitzvah). My brother had to read from a Torah. Sam shared his Bar Mitzvah with a girl he met in Hebrew School.

At my brothers Bar Mitzvah: there was a big dance floor, a d.j, lots of flashing lights, and a lot of people. Most of our relatives came from Texas and New York. When you have a Bar Mitzvah party, you sometimes have special colors. Sam's colors were blue, silver, and black.

During my brothers party, I had to say a speech. When I said my speech, I got a little choked up.  Many people said I made them cry.

Did your brother or sister have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah?

Does your religion have any special ceremonies?

                      Pictures will be coming soon.

Story: My Favorite Sport Soccer (True story)

By Sydney

I play many sports but  my favorite is definitely soccer.  Some facts about my soccer career, is that I have been playing soccer for six years, and in fall it will be my seventh season. My team has always been named the Firecrackers.  My jersey number is always “6” because that is my lucky number. Last year my color was blue, and this year it was light pink with a lot of black. A bunch of my friends are on my team. There is Samantha, Maggie, Kerry, Lilly, Marisa, Dariel, Camilla, and Selma (Lilly, Maggie and Marisa, and Kerry all go to my school).

Second of all, I practice every Wednesday and Saturday. I eat healthy so I have more energy to play soccer and make lots of goals. When I grow up, I want to be a professional girls soccer player. I have to practice to get on the girls soccer team when I am older. Right now my soccer division is GU11 WVSL (West Valley Soccer league, girls under 11).    It is a good thing to like a sport or activity.

Do you have a favorite sport?

Do you have a favorite activity?

If you do, what is it?

Thank You Nick!

By Sydney

I would like to thank  my friend Nick because he helped me get every thing on my side bar and a second page in commenting. He helped me get the voki, the voting, the links, the cluster map, a second page for commenting, and the daily puppy.

Nick is a really good friend because he is always there for me. He is there when I need a friend. He is also there when I get hurt.

Thank you again Nick.

Do you have a friend like Nick?

Working With Money

By: Sydney

In school, I am learning how to subtract money. For example, what is $3.90-$2.40? It is $1.50.

Sometimes, we have to draw the value, for examle drawing three $1.00, three quarters, one dime, and one nickel. That is how you make $3.90.

Have you ever had to draw the value of money?

Have you worked with money yet?
